Lost or Replaced Your Cat's RFID Feeder Tag? Start Here

If your cat loses a feeder tag, first make sure they can still reach their usual meal. Offer a supervised alternative while you arrange a replacement. A full protected bowl is not useful if the intended cat no longer has the identifier needed to open it.

For an ePawDen microchip pet feeder, use a supported ePawDen RFID tag and follow the instructions for your exact model. A new tag needs its own pairing check; moving it onto the old collar does not prove the ePawDen microchip pet feeder recognizes it.

1. Identify what actually changed

There is a difference between replacing a collar and replacing its electronic tag. If the original tag remains attached to a new collar, the identifier has not changed, but its position during eating may have. If the tag itself is new, check registration with each ePawDen microchip pet feeder the cat is allowed to use.

Keep a simple note of the cat, tag and permitted feeding station. This is especially useful if several people help with meals or if two tags look alike. Do not assign another cat's working tag as a temporary substitute without checking which meals it can open.

2. Buy for the exact feeder model

“RFID” is not a promise of universal compatibility. Shape, color or the presence of a metal disc does not establish that a replacement works with your equipment. Tags sold for another brand, ordinary engraved ID discs and QR-code tags should not be assumed to work.

The ePawDen replacement RFID tag two-pack is intended for compatible ePawDen equipment. Check the current listing and ask about your model if uncertain. Product photographs show the tag and collar arrangement; use the listing to confirm the package contents.

3. Pair the replacement before depending on it

Follow the current user manual for the correct pairing controls. Work with one intended pet and tag at a time, with other pets away from the test area. If you need to remove an old identity, check the model's instructions or contact support before resetting anything. Do not assume that adding a replacement automatically removes the old registration.

During an ePawDen microchip pet feeder tag test, identification is triggered when the sensing area inside the front frame is interrupted. Simply waving the tag nearby is not a complete test. The ePawDen FAQ describes testing with the tag held in a hand inside the frame. Keep fingers clear of moving parts and do not force the moving lid of the ePawDen microchip pet feeder.

4. Test the cat's ordinary approach

A successful handheld test is only the first check. With the tag on the cat's appropriate collar, watch the cat enter the front frame naturally, open the lid, eat and leave. Observe another approach rather than relying on a single successful opening. Check that the collar and tag do not catch on the ePawDen microchip pet feeder.

Store spare paired tags away from the opening. A tag left near the reading area can confuse your test of which identity is granting access. If you manage more than one station, test each intended cat at each relevant station and record the result.

What if the new tag works in your hand but not on the cat?

Check the approach and tag position before changing several settings at once. Also check the power and placement of the ePawDen microchip pet feeder. Use our recognition troubleshooting guide for a structured next step. Do not keep withholding the familiar meal while testing.

If you need help, send support the exact model, whether the tag is new, which test succeeds and a short video of the approach. Keep addresses, order details and personal information out of public videos or comments.

Can an implanted chip replace the lost tag?

Only if the model supports that implant and it is successfully registered. The microchip-capable ePawDen microchip pet feeder supports compatible 15-digit ISO FDX-B implants at 134.2 kHz. An RFID collar-tag-only model does not read implanted microchips. Check compatibility before changing identification methods.

Once access is dependable, keep a compatible spare and a brief care note. The goal is a replacement routine that restores the right cat's access without accidentally changing who can eat from each bowl.
